Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup strong brewed coffee, chilled Brew at double strength, dark roast recommended, or use 2 shots espresso
  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream About 1 cup; premium brands like Breyer's or Häagen-Dazs work best
  • 0.25 cup milk Whole milk works best
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup or caramel syrup For mocha version use chocolate; for caramel version use caramel syrup
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1.5 cups ice cubes Or use coffee ice cubes to prevent watering down
For Garnish
  • whipped cream Optional
  • chocolate or caramel drizzle Optional
  • chocolate shavings Optional, for mocha version

Equipment

  • cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • measuring spoons

Method

Prepare Your Coffee
  1. Brew your coffee at double strength and chill it completely in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (or quick-chill in the freezer for 10 minutes). The coffee must be cold before blending to achieve the right texture. Pro tip: Make coffee ice cubes in advance by freezing leftover coffee in an ice cube tray to prevent your frappe from getting watered down.
Add Base Ingredients to Blender
  1. Place the chilled coffee, vanilla ice cream, milk, chocolate syrup, and sugar in your blender. These ingredients form the base of your frappe and create that signature creamy flavor. Pro tip: Add ingredients in this order (liquids first, then solids) to help your blender process everything more evenly.
Add Ice and Blend
  1. Add the ice cubes last and secure the blender lid. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Serve
  1. Pour into a tall glass and top with whipped cream and caramel or chocolate drizzle. Serve immediately with a straw.
