Ingredients

  • 1 Can Diet Coke Chilled
  • 2 Teaspoon fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge for garnish
  • Pinch of lime zest Optional

Equipment

  • cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • measuring spoons

Method

  1. Roll the lime firmly on the counter with your palm for a few seconds to release the juices.
  2. Cut the lime in half and squeeze 1-2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice into a tall glass.
  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the chilled Diet Coke over the ice.
  5. Add a small pinch of lime zest if desired.
  6. Stir gently to combine without losing carbonation.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Start with 1 teaspoon of lime juice and add more to taste—it's easier to add more than to fix an over-limed drink
  • Fresh lime juice tastes significantly better than bottled, but bottled works in a pinch (use about 1½ teaspoons)
  • For best results, make sure both the Diet Coke and lime are well chilled before mixing
  • Stir gently to preserve carbonation
  • Can substitute Coke Zero or other diet sodas if Diet Coke isn't available
  • For a sweeter version, add a single drop of simple syrup or agave nectar
