Ingredients

The Sangria Base
  • 1 bottle white wine (750ml, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or Moscato)
  • 1/2 cup peach schnapps
  • 1/4 cup triple sec (or orange liqueur)
  • 1-2 cups orange juice
  • 2-4 Tablespoons honey (adjust to taste, or use simple syrup)
Fresh Fruits
  • 1 cup strawberries sliced
  • 1 orange sliced into rounds
  • 1 lemon sliced into rounds
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1-2 cups pineapple diced, optional

Equipment

  • cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • measuring spoons

Method

  1. Step 1:
  2. Choose a large glass pitcher that can hold at least 2 quarts. Ensure it has enough room for all ingredients plus the sparkling water you'll add later.
  3. Step 2:
  4. Wash and prep all fresh fruits. Slice strawberries, oranges, and lemons into thin, even rounds. Leave raspberries and blueberries whole. Dice pineapple into bite-sized chunks if using.
  5. Step 3:
  6. Pour the white wine, peach schnapps, and triple sec into the pitcher. Stir gently to combine.
  7. Step 4:
  8. Add the orange juice (start with 1 cup and adjust based on how fruity you prefer your sangria). Stir well.
  9. Step 5:
  10. Add honey or simple syrup to sweeten. Start with 2 tablespoons, stir until completely dissolved, then taste and add more if desired.
  11. Step 6:
  12. Add all the prepared fresh fruits to the pitcher. Gently stir to distribute the fruit throughout the sangria. Ensure some fruits are submerged for maximum flavor infusion.
  13. Step 7:
  14. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. For best results, chill overnight (up to 24 hours) to allow flavors to fully meld and develop.
  15. Step 8:
  16. Just before serving, add 1-2 cups of club soda or sparkling water for fizz. Stir gently to combine without losing carbonation.
  17. Step 9:
  18. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets a good mix of fruit. Garnish with fresh fruit slices or mint sprigs if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Wine Selection:
Choose a light, fruity white wine like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or Moscato. Avoid heavily oaked wines. For a pink sangria, use rosé wine.
Make It Ahead:
Sangria tastes better when fruits have time to infuse. Prepare 4-24 hours in advance, but add club soda just before serving to maintain fizz.
Sweetness Level:
Adjust honey/sugar based on your wine's sweetness and personal preference. Moscato is sweeter and may need less added sweetener.
Non-Alcoholic Version:
Replace wine with white grape juice, skip schnapps and triple sec, and add extra fruit juice. Use sparkling cider instead of club soda for bubbles.
Fruit Variations:
Feel free to swap fruits based on availability. Try kiwi, blackberries, peaches, or mango for different flavors.
Storage:
Keep leftover sangria refrigerated in an airtight pitcher for up to 3 days. The fruit will continue to soften and infuse flavor.
Serving Tip:
Freeze extra berries or fruit chunks to use as "ice cubes" that won't dilute your sangria as they melt.
Scaling:
This recipe easily doubles or triples for large parties. Use a drink dispenser for easy self-service at gatherings.
