Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 oz silver tequila use decent quality for best flavor
  • 1 oz triple sec or orange liqueur adds authentic orange notes
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice freshly squeezed makes all the difference
  • 0.5 oz agave nectar for natural sweetness
  • 1 cup ice cubes
For Garnish
  • 1 lime wheel optional
  • salt for rimming the glass, optional

Equipment

  • cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • measuring spoons

Method

Prepare Your Glass
  1. If you want a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the edge of your glass to moisten it. Dip the rim in salt, rotating gently to coat evenly. This step is optional but adds that authentic margarita presentation and enhances the flavor contrast.
Juice the Limes
  1. For the best results, use fresh lime juice instead of bottled. Roll your lime on the counter with slight pressure to help extract more juice before cutting and squeezing. You'll need about 1 medium-sized lime to get 1 oz of juice.
Combine and Mix
  1. Add the tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar to a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Fill it halfway with ice cubes. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled.
Strain to Perfection
  1. Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with fresh ice. The straining removes any small lime pulp and ensures a smooth consistency. For a more authentic texture, use a fine mesh strainer.
Serve
  1. Pour into a rocks glass, add a lime wheel for garnish, and enjoy your homemade margarita immediately! For the best experience, serve right away while it's cold and fresh. Pro Tip: Chill your glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes before making your drink for an extra-cold and refreshing experience.
