Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed green tea chilled
  • 1/4 cup passion fruit juice or passion fruit puree
  • 1/4 cup papaya nectar or fresh papaya blended
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 slice fresh lemon for garnish

Equipment

  • tall glass
  • Measuring cup
  • spoon
  • ice cube tray

Method

  1. Brew a strong cup of green tea using your preferred method and allow it to cool completely in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or prepare it the night before for best results. The tea should be cold to the touch and have a smooth, slightly grassy aroma without any bitterness.
  2. Fill a tall 16-ounce glass with ice cubes, filling it about three-quarters full to ensure your drink stays properly chilled. The ice should reach near the top of the glass, creating a frosty appearance on the outside.
  3. Pour the chilled green tea over the ice, listening for the satisfying crackling sound as the cold liquid hits the frozen cubes. The tea should fill about half the glass, leaving room for the fruit juices.
  4. Add the passion fruit juice and papaya nectar to the glass, watching as the vibrant orange and yellow hues swirl together with the pale green tea. The tropical fruit aromas should immediately become noticeable and inviting.
  5. Drizzle in the simple syrup or honey, adjusting the amount based on your sweetness preference and the natural sweetness of your fruit juices. Stir gently with a long spoon for about 15 seconds until all ingredients are fully combined and the color is uniform throughout.
  6. Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavors and add a subtle citrus tang that balances the sweetness. The lemon juice will cut through the rich tropical notes and add a refreshing zing.
  7. Give the drink one final stir from bottom to top to ensure all the settled syrup is incorporated and the flavors are evenly distributed. The drink should have a beautiful peachy-orange color with a slightly cloudy appearance from the fruit nectars.
  8. Garnish with a fresh lemon slice on the rim of the glass for presentation and an extra burst of citrus aroma with each sip. Serve immediately while ice-cold and enjoy the tropical, refreshing flavors that rival the original Panera version.
